About us

It all started in 2010.
Fab Lab Sauðárkrókur is part of Fab Lab Ísland and was opened on October 1, 2010. Fab Lab Sauðárkrókur is run by Hátæknisetur Íslands, which was originally a joint project of Sveitafélagsins Skagafjarðar, Fjölbrautaskóla Norðurlands vestra, University of Iceland and Innovation Center of Iceland.
Today, ICI has been replaced, and in its place, the Association of Rural Associations in the North West has joined the group, along with support from the Ministry of Education and Children's Affairs and the Ministry of Universities, Industry and Innovation.
The Fab Pact
What is a Fab Lab?
Fab Lab is a global network of local makers who lead to inventions by providing access to equipment for digital fabrication.
What is a Fab Lab?
The core competency of Fab Labs is enabling people to create (almost) anything. It is constantly evolving and fosters the sharing of knowledge and projects.
What does the Fab Lab network offer?
Support for operations, education, technology, finance and processes beyond what a single workshop can provide.
Who can use Fab Lab workshops?
Fab Labs are community infrastructures that offer open access for individuals as well as organized activities.
What is your responsibility?
Safety: Not causing harm to people or equipment.
Operations: Assisting with the selection, maintenance, and improvements of the workshop.
Knowledge: To contribute to registration and guidance.
Who owns Fab Lab inventions?
Designs and methods developed in Fab Lab workshops can be both protected and sold in any way the creator chooses, but the knowledge should be accessible to individuals for their benefit and education.
How can companies utilize Fab Lab?
Fab Labs can be used by businesses to prototype and generate ideas. Such activities should grow out of the lab rather than within it. They should not disrupt other Fab Lab activities and should benefit the innovators, the labs, the network, and the innovation ecosystem.
